This one was taken as I waited in the hot sun for Fourth of July Parade to start. My daughter was riding a horse in the parade along with other members of her riding school and my wife went along as part of the crew providing water and such along the route. My daughter was disappointed she couldn't be catching candy by the bagful like all the other kids, so I told her I would collect some for her if I had a chance. I waited an hour for the parade to start amongst the families and kids gathered along the sidewalks. To pass the time I started taking pictures of objects around me like cracks in the road, weeds, and as seen here a telephone pole. This kind of activity and subjects aren't at all unusual for me, my family is used to it, so I continued on for some time without giving my actions a second thought. It wasn't until later I started to think about how ridiculous I may have appeared to those around me - a forty-something man with no fashion sense, at a parade by himself, photographing the weeds like they were fashion models and stuffing candy in his pockets. But that's okay, because I'm sure I was forgotten after the 'taxidermy' float went by; nothing seems so unusual after a red-white-and blue parade float adorned with a half dozen animal heads and a full sized stuffed black bear passes by.
